CU Correspondent :
Chittagong University (CU) authorities on Wednesday decided, in principle, to hold CU Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at VC’s Conference Room where CU VC Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, all provosts of the university and the proctorial body were present.
Prof Sultan Ahmed, convener of CU Provost Committee, said the university authority has decided to hold the election, but the date and time were not discussed at the meeting.
After the establishment of CU in 1966, Cucsu elections were held six times. The first Cucsu election was held in 1970 while the last election was in 1990.
Another report adds: Chittagong University (CU) authorities formed a five-member committee on Thursday , to review the policy for holding CU Central Students Union (Cucsu) election.
The five-member committee led by Prof Mohammad Shafiul Alam, dean of science faculty, was asked to make an upgraded policy for the polls, as the existing policy is not time befitting, said CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury.
The committee will also review policies of other universities’ student unions, including Dhaka University, he added.
Contacted, Prof Shafiul Alam said they would begin working on this after receiving the official letter on the matter.
The last Cucsu election was held in 1990.
