Five persons including a minor girl were killed in road accidents on Friday. Of the deceased, three have been identified as Shahina Akhter from Munshiganj, Hafiz Ullah from Khagrachhari and Asiya Khatun from Manikganj.
In Munshiganj, a minor girl was crushed to death by a battery-run auto-bike in Mirshwarai area of Sadar upazila.The deceased has been identified as Shahina Akhter, 5, daughter of Idris Ali.
Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station, said a auto-bike hit Shahina at noon when she was crossing the road
on her way to her residence after taking bath in the Dhaleshwari River, and left her critically injured.
She was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital where doctors referred her to Dhaka. But she died on the way.
In Khagrachhari, pedestrian Hafiz Ullah was killed and 20 students of Chittagong University were injured when the bus carrying them overturned in Alutila area of the Sadar upazila. Hafiz Ullah, 67, was a local fish trader. Fire service sources said that the Khagrachhari-bound tourist bus carrying students overturned on the road after the bus driver lost control over the steering, leaving a fish trader dead on the spot and at least 20 students injured. In Manikganj, a teenage girl died and three others were injured when a jeep plunged into a roadside ditch at Mushuria in Shibalaya upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Asiya Khatun, 13, daughter of Motaleb Mia from Terokhada upazila of Khulna district. Yeamin Uddoula, in-charge of Borongail Highway police camp, said that the accident took place around 7:30 am. The tyre of a Patuaria-bound jeep got punctured and it fell into a roadside ditch, leaving the girl dead and three others injured.
The injured were taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital.
In Gaibandha, two persons, including a child, were killed and seven others injured when a bus upturned after it crashed into a roadside tree on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Palongpara in Sadullapur upazila.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Abul Bashar, in-charge of Gobindaganj highway police camp, said the accident took place around 7 am, leaving the two killed on the spot and seven others injured, who were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
