Five people were killed and four others injured in a road accident at Kamaichara on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Bahubal upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased were Benu Mia, 40, son of Naeb Ali, of Monkuta village, Arab Ali, 65, his son Faruk Miah, 22, of fatur village, Nahid Islam, 15, son of Khairul Islam of Srinagar village and Abdul Jahir of Gokarna village under Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
Police said the accident occurred when a truck collided head on with a pickup van in the area at about 8.30 am, leaving one pickup van passenger dead on the spot and eight others injured. The injured were sent to different hospitals where four others succumbed to their injuries. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to escape.
