Five people, including three women, were killed and another injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Comilla-Noakhali regional highway at Fatehpur in Laksam upazila headquarters on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jasimuddin, 30, Rozina Islam, 22, wife of Sirajul Islam, Mohsena, 35, wife of Jahiruddin, and Nasreen Begum, 24, daughter of Ali Akkas-all residents of Rajapur village in Monoharganj upazila-and pedestrian Abul Kalam, 35, son of Momtaz Uddin of
Dhamicha village in Laksam upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Laksam Police Station Monwar Hossain said the accident took place when a Noakhali-bound truck collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw around 7am, leaving Jasimuddin and Mohsena respectively driver and passenger of the auto rickshaw and pedestrian Abul Kalam dead and three passengers of the three-wheeler injured on the spot.
Later, the injured were whisked off to Laksam Upazila Health Complex where Rozina and Nasreen succumbed to their injures at around 8:30am.
