A court here on Tuesday convicted five people and sentenced them to different jail terms for attacking a house in Sadar upazila on November 17, 2010.
Of the convicts, Abu Hannan was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment while Saiful Islam, Rebekul, Pikul Molla and Tuhin were given four years’ imprisonment each.
The court also fined Hannan Tk5,000, in default, to suffer six months’ more jail while four others were fined Tk3,000 each, in default, to suffer six months’ jail.
According to the prosecution, Hamidul Islam and Saiful Islam, both residents of Laxmikol Uttarpara village in Sadar upazila, had been at loggerheads over previous enmity.
As a sequel to the enmity, 12 people, including Saiful Islam, attacked the house of Hamidul at about 9:00 pm on November 17, 2010.
The attackers vandalised the house and looted it.
They also stabbed four people including Hamidul, leaving them seriously injured. The injured were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital.
