In separate incidents, customs officials and customs intelligence officials arrested five people, including three
of a family, and recovered 20 gold bars and ornaments weighing around 9.475 kilograms at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Poly Rani Das,27, and Abida Sultana,33, Moin Uddin,42, and Muzakkir Moin,5 and Lucky Akhter,23.
Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Riyadul Islam said Poly arrived at the airport from Kuala Lumpur by
an aircraft of Bangladesh Biman Airlines ‘BG 087’ at about 6.00 am.
When she was about to leave the airport through the green channel, customs officials stopped her and found presence of gold ornaments after scanning her luggage.
Gold ornaments weighing 4.5 kilograms were recovered from inside a hairdryer, AC Riyadul added.
