Rupnagar Police arrested five persons from the local Lab-24 Hospital area on Wednesday alleging that they cheated people in the name of get them jobs in the Padma Bridge project.
The three of the five arrested persons have been identified as Abul Kashem, Rajeeb Biswas and Shariful Islam. The identity of two others could not be known immediately, said Ropnagar Police Station’s
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sikder Shamim Hossain.
He said that the police picked up them in the afternoon based on a secret information. The accused were handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’ (DMP) Paltan Thana, as a General Diary (GD) had been filed with it, he added.
Rupnagar Thana On-Duty Officer Golam Fattah said that a gang of cheats cheated over one hundred people in the name of giving them in the Padma Bridge Project. The gang brought at least 80 people in the Lab-24 hospital for their medical check-up. But some victims raised a doubt about the cheating and informed the matter to the police.
He said that police arrested them with some documents in connection with the cheating. Paltan thana Duty-Officer Shayamal Devnath said that the detainees hailed from Jessore, Khulna and Patukhali.
The officer-in charge (OC) said that the detainees would be produced to the court after filing of a case.
