Five cocktail-like objects were recovered from a residence of Gournadi upazila of Barisal district on Saturday noon.
The bomb disposal unit of Sheikh Hasina Cantonment at Lebukhali, Barishal defused the cocktails on Saturday afternoon.
Abdur Rab Hawladar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Gournadi Circle, acknowledging the facts said that around 12 noon on Saturday (August 29), five cocktail-like objects were detected in a pottery pot of sweetmeat placed under the Surface near east side of the toilet at Sobahan Mridha’s house in Ward No. 6 of Khanjapur Union of Gournadi Upazila.
Receiving the information the local police station informed Barishal district superintendent of police.
The SP of Barishal informed the Sheikh Hasina cantonment at Barishal to recover and deactivate the suspected explosives.
A team of bomb disposal unit from that cantonment arriving at the scene confirmed the red-tape covered objects as cocktail and defused those.
The five cocktails were covered with red tape and packed with sulfur and steel balls of fishing nets, said Captain Shakil Ahmed, leader of the bomb disposal unit of 22nd Engineering core, defusing the cocktails declared end of the operation at 3:00 PM.
Golam Sarwar, Officer in-Charge of Gournadi police station, said a general diary was lodged in this connection.
No casualties were reported and no arrests have been made so far, but police are investigating about planting those explosives, the police official added.
