Five aspirants in Rajshahi are going to be elected uncontested in the upcoming upazila elections, it is learnt.
Among the candidates in nine upazilas, two are chairman and three women vice-chairpersons. The elections will be held at eight upazilas of the nine, setting on March 10. Elections to the Paba upazila has already been postponed due to border complications.
According to the sources of Rajshahi district election office, a total of 26 candidates of eight upazilas submitted their nominations to the chairman posts respectively. Among them, five candidates’ nomination has been cancelled and six candidates has withdrawn their nominations willingly. Now, a total of 15 candidates will participate in the upcoming upazila polls for the post of chairman. Mohanpur upazila awami league president Abdus Salam and in Bagha upazila, awami league nominated another candidate Layeb Uddin Luvlu are going to be elected chairman respectively without any contest as they have no competitors.
In Durgapur upazila, only two candidates will participate in the upcoming polls for the post of chairman. They are awami league nominated candidate Nazrul Islam and opposition candidate Abdul Kader.
In Puthia Upazila, Awami League nominated candidate GM Hira Baschu and Jatiya Party candidate Ansar Ali will compete in the upazila elections.
In Charghat Upazila, three candidates will compete for the post of chairman post respectively. They are Awami League candidate Fakrul Islam, the same party’s candidate advocate Tipu Sultan and Jatiya Party candidate Iqbal Hossain.
In Bagmara upazila, two aspirants will compete. The candidates are Awami League candidate Anil Kumaar and the party’s candidate Nasima Babul.
In Tanore Upazila, awami league candidate Lutfar Haydar Rashid Moyna and workers party nominated candidate former Jubo League leader Shariful Islam will compete in the upcoming upazila elections.
In Godagari Upazila, a total of four candidates will fight for the post of chairman. They are awami league candidate Jahangir Alam, the party’s another candidate Bodiuzzaman, jatiya party candidate advocate Salahouddin Biswas and workers party candidate Saidur Rahman.
In Bagha Upazila, Awami League nominated candidate Layeb uddin Luvlu is going to be elected chairman as he has no any competitors.
while asking, Layeb Uddin Luvlu said The New Nation that he has a strong preparation for the upcoming polls but no competitors want to contest against him.
Meanwhile, election commission on Wednesday declared Layeb as an upazila chairman unofficially.
