Fitness certificates of about 19 percent of vehicles only were renewed in two months, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has said.
BRTA reported it to the High Court on Wednesday. The certificates of 89,269 out of 458,369 vehicles were renewed after the court passed an order regarding the matter.
BRTA submitted the report to the bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam.
Earlier, on June 22, the High Court ordered BRTA to submit a report with details of about 458,369
unfit buses across Bangladesh.
The HC passed the order when BRTA’s Road Safety Division Director Mahbub-E-Rabbani appeared before it following a summoning.
The court asked BRTA to submit the report within one month, with details of the buses that have licenses but their fitness certificates are yet to be renewed.
The bench also ordered BRTA to submit a report about bus drivers who were driving with an expired licenses.
