Fishermen unhappy as trading dull in Patuakhali

Fishermen have become very unhappy as they are passing hard days due to countrywide blockade programme for indefinite period.
 Fish trading is also being greatly hampered ] as whole sellers couldn’t send their loaded truck to Dhaka and other places due to blockade. Fish trading in coastal districts Patuakhali seriously hamper and thousands of fishermen passing hard days with their families as their source of income about to stop.
Md. Seraj Mia, a fisherman of Kuakata said, many of us are passing idle times by anchoring their boats in their ghats as they couldn’t sell fish. Buyers couldn’t buy fish, as they couldn’t send fish to Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi and other places due to blockade programm across the country for an indefinite period, he said.
Some fishermen catch fish at a small scale but they have to sell at a very cheap rate in locals hat and bazars, he said. I sold one mound of Faisha, a local spicy of fish at Tk only 3,800 on Tuesday while before blockade we sold per mounds of such fish at Tk 6,000, he said. We couldn’t manage cost including fuel, feeding, labor by selling fish and that is reason most fishermen stop fishing, he added. Abdul Karim, another fisherman of same area said, we don’t want blockade but we urge to all political parties to keep peaceful environment to run our job to maintain our families. Most of fishermen are not in a position to maintain their families as their income about to stop, he said. Abdur Rahim Khan, owner of Khan Fish, a where house (locally called as Arat) of fish in Mohipur, a fish landing station near to Kuakata said, fish trading about to stop over blockade programme as we couldn’t sent truck to Dhaka and other places.
We have to loss as we are not getting proper price by selling fish in local markets, he added.
Truck drivers couldn’t carry fish as road became risky over blockade, Nimai Chandra, former secretary for fishing trawler owners association in Mohipur said. In most cases small sizes of truck demands high fare double or more to carry fish in Dhaka that make the trading loss, he said.
Md. Abbas Kazi, secretary for Kuakata-Alipur Matsya (fish) Aratder Samittee said, both fishermen and fish traders are face great problem over blockade programme.

Fishermen lost interest to fishing in the sea and rivers as they don’t get proper price, he said. Most Arat are stopped their business lack of supply of fish, he added. He also added Most fishermen have lost their jobs and fish trading also greatly hamper as blockade programme fall bad impact on the sector.
