Fish worth Tk 20 lakh were poisoned to death by unknown criminals in a fishery at Nandua village in Uttar Shahbajpur Union Parishad in Barlekha Upazila of Moulvibazar on Monday afternoon.
Victim Yasin Ali, 45, resident of Purpo Saipur village said , I started fishing on the pond just seven months before taking a 3-year lease from Ahmed Hasan Jewel of Nandua village. On Monday afternoon, a local man informed me that my fishes were dying. As I had to borrow a huge amount of money for the fish farming, now I am passing anxious time thinking about how I am going to recoup the loss and return the debt, he said.
Uttar Shahbazpur UP chairman Ahmed Zubair Liton said the incident was very inhuman. He went to the spot and found many dead fish.
Barlekha Police OC Md. Yasinul Haque said, no one has complained about this yet. If the complaint is received, legal action will be taken according to the investigation.
