Fish, vegetables in city markets dear

The prices of fish, vegetables and onion increased while other commodities including rice are static at the weekend on Friday.
The people of limited income groups have been struggling to maintain their monthly budget.
However, prices of fish such as Shing, Magur, Golsha, Shol, Pabda, Tengra, Puti, Kajoli and other varieties increased significantly in a week on account of short supply.
Pabda was sold at Tk 700-Tk 950, Golsha at Tk 450-600, Tengra at Tk 400-650, Shing and Magur at Tk 650-Tk 800 and Shol at Tk 400-500 a kg based on their size on Friday.
Of other fishes sheat (boal) at Tk 500 to 700, lobster at Tk 450 to 600 ,shrimp (River) at Tk 350 to 400, puti at Tk 250 to 450 per kg, cultivated koi at Tk 150 to 180 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchanda) at Tk 900 to 1100 per kg, lata fish at Tk 250 to 350 and Eel at Tk 450 to 550 per kg, batashi at Tk 400 to 500, koi (river) at Tk 600, Aire fish at Tk 500 to 700, Baila at Tk 400 to 550 per kg, coral fish at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 per kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 140 per kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg and Telapia at Tk 150 to Tk 200 per kg.  
Hilsha was selling at Tk 900 a kg weighing one kg per piece and Tk 1400 weighing 1.3 kg.
Ramjan Ali, a fish trader at Karwan Bazar wholesale market, told the reporter that the supply of fish declined significantly following a low catch.
“Pabda was sold at Tk 650-Tk 800 a kg at Maowa Ghat, which were Tk 500- Tk 700 a week ago,” he said.
Bangladesh Fish Traders Association president Golam Mortaza Montu told The New Nation that fish catch has declined amid overflow of rivers.
He said that the fish collection would increase with the fall in water.
Prices of both local and imported onion witnessed a hike by Tk 2.0 a kg in a week, local onion was sold at Tk 35-Tk 40, while imported varieties at Tk 25-Tk 34 a kg.
Prices of most of leafy vegetables increased by Tk 3.0-Tk 10 a kg or bunch.
Seasonal pointed gourd was selling at a range from Tk 35 to Tk 50 in different markets, marking Tk 5.0 hike a kg in a week.
Other vegetables like sponge gourd, ridge gourd, ladies finger, snake gourd, eddo and brinjal were selling at Tk 40-Tk 60 a kg, with Tk 5-Tk 10 hike in a week.
Visiting different kitchen markets at Muhammadpur Krishi Market, Karwan Bazar, South Goran, Malibag, Shantinagar and Hatirpool, the reporter observed that green chilli was selling at Tk100 to 120 per kg, brinjal at Tk 45 to 60 per kg based on quality, potato at Tk 25 to 28, okra at Tk 35 to 40, parble at Tk Tk 30 to 40, raddish at Tk 40, arum at Tk 50 to 60, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60, french at Tk 60, balsam apple at Tk 70, teasel gourd at Tk 50 to 60, carrot at Tk 70 to 80, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, cucumber at Tk 40 to 60, green papaya at Tk 35 to 50, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 50 to 60 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 50 to 60, ash gourd at Tk 35 to 40 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 25 to 30 per piece, cabbage at Tk 30 to 35 per piece, coriander leaves at Tk 300 per kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 350 per kg, capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 280 per kg and lemon was selling at Tk five to eight per piece.
Farm chicken was selling at Tk 165-Tk 170 per kg, Pakistani chicken at Tk 160 to 250 per piece, farm eggs at Tk 30 to 34 per haali and egg (duck) at 44 to 50 per haali.
Beef was selling at Tk 490-Tk 520 per kg and mutton at Tk750 to 800 kg.
Rice price is still high. Fine variety of rice like minicut was selling at Tk 58 to 63 per kg, while najirshail at Tk 58 to 64 per kg based on quality. The miniket and Bashmoti were selling at Tk 56 to 63 per kg.
