As part of the nationwide celebration of the National Fisheries Week -2022 fish fries of Rui, Katla, Mrigel, Kalibouse were released at Ramnagar Point of Karatoa River by the Rural Development Academy under Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Wednesday.
Khalil Ahmed (Additional Secretary), Director General of Rural Development Academy, Bogura inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at the release of fish fry function.
In the speech of the chief guest and said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream was that fish would be the second export product of Bangladesh, with the aim of realizing that dream, fish fry produced in the own hatchery of RDA, Bogura were released yesterday in the open reservoir of Karatoa river.” “Effluents of various factories formed around the Karatoa river are polluting the river water and decontamination of this water and making people aware is one of the objectives of today’s activities.”” From the point of social responsibility, if all the hatchery owners come forward to release the fish fry in the open water bodies by choosing a clean season, then Bangladesh will rise from the third place to the first place in fish production” he also expressed. He mentioned that RDA, Bogura is working with the aim of transforming Kalshimati village of Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogura district into a poverty-free model village. So, the fish fry has been released today in the Karatoa river adjacent to this village will meet the nutritional needs of the people of the village and also make them aware of the use of illegal nets in the rivers and the prevention of river pollution.
He said, “Today’s initiative has been taken to fulfill the goal of releasing 1 (One) crore fish fry into free water bodies in the next three months to make the public and fishermen aware about river protection and increase fish production.”
RDA Additional Director General Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Director Dr.Nurul Amin, Bogura District Fisheries Officer Sarkar Anwarul Kabir Ahmed and Sherpur Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Masud Rana Sarkar along with RDA, other directors of Bogura, faculty members, local respected & common people of the village were present among others.
