Beximco Dhaka recorded first win in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup defeating Fortune Barishal by seven wickets in their match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Chasing Fortune Barishal’s meager total of 108 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs, Beximco Dhaka reached the winning spot making 109 for the loss of three wickets when they had seven balls to spare.
Dhaka lost their early two wickets for 23 runs.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Tanzid Hasan put on together 31 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tanzid Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Dhaka’s total was 54 for the loss of three wickets.
After Tanzid’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali guided their team to reach the winning target adding together 55 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.
Yasir Ali remained unbeaten with 44. His 30-ball innings saw two sixes and three fours.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 23. He hit one four in his 34-ball knock.
Tanzid Hasan made 22 from 20 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.
Miraz got one wicket for 13 runs.
Earlier, Fortune Barishal failed to make any notable partnership.
Opener Tamim Iqbal hit a run-a-ball 31 with three fours and a sixer.
Third-down Towhid Hridoy made a run-a-ball 33 including one six and three fours.
Robiul Islam of Beximco Dhaka grabbed four wickets at the cost of 20 runs. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning bowling performance.
Shafiqul Islam bagged two wickets instead of 10 runs.
Besides, Nayeem Hasan and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each for eight and 30 runs respectively.
