A freight mother vessel with construction equipment of Matarbari power plant will anchor at Matarbari Jetty in Cox’s Bazar through a newly-prepared channel on tomorrow as part of implementation of the project.
The government has been constructing a 1200-MW Matarbari Ultra-supercritical Coal-Fired Power Project aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the country at affordable price.
With directly anchoring the first freight mother vessel at Matarbari jetty through the channel, developed on experimental basis, it will be a “special milestone” for Bangladesh.
“The present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has undertaken various realistic schemes to make Bangladesh a developed country,” an energy expert told BSS.
He said the government has almost ensured cent percent power connections in the country, while a target is there to ensure cent percent electricity by this month.
Earlier, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that efforts were underway to ensure uninterrupted and quality electricity supply across the country at affordable price.
He said that the government is working hard to develop inclusive power system for all through enhancing capacity and transmission lines, adding, “Efforts were also underway to bring power cables and substations underground.”
According to the ministry’s information, since assuming power, the present government constructed 113 new power plants having generation capacity of 18,606 MW in the last 11 years after taking time-befitting, realistic and sustainable steps.
It said currently the country’s power generation capacity reached 23,548 MW, while about 98 per cent people of the country were brought under the power coverage.
“The government has achieved tremendous success in increasing power generation capacity to make the country self-reliant in electricity supply,” Nasrul Hamid said
The state minister added that this has been possible due to the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
