A Rohingya man died from coronavirus while undergoing treatment at the isolation centre at Ukhiya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.
The deceased, aged around 71, could not be identified yet, said Dr Abu Toha MRH Bhuiyan, health coordinator of the Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.
This is for the first time that a Rohingya man died from coronavirus in Bangladesh, he said,
adding that several Rohingyas have already got infected with coronavirus and all of them have been kept at the isolation centre.
Bangladesh first reported the coronavirus infections among Rohingyas on May 16 when two displaced Myanmar nationals were diagnosed with the virus at Kutupalong camp in Cox’s Bazar.
Bangladesh is hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas and most of them entered the country since August 25, 2017.
