The Election Commission will hold the first phase of upazila election in 87 Upazila Parishads on March 10.
Election will be held in 87 upazilas of 12 districts namely Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Jamalpur, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Sirajganj, Joypurhat, Rajshahi and Natore in the first phase, the Commission’s Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told in a press briefing on Sunday.
The last date for the submission of nomination papers is February 11, while that of withdrawal of the candidature on February 19. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on February 12.
On January 10, EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said the polls would be held in phases starting from the first week of March.
The Upazila Parishad elections were held in 1985, 1990, 2009 and 2014. The last one was organised in six phases.
Besides, the Election Commission fixed March 4 for the elections to the JS reserved seats.
The last date for the submission of nomination papers is February 11 while that of withdrawal on February 16. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 12.
