First national industries fair begins today

The week-long “First National Industries Fair 2019” begins in the city tomorrow in a bid to publicize and showcase locally produced products and services at national and international levels alongside attracting local and foreign investment in the industrial sector.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the fair as chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) at 10:00 am,” said Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun.
The minister stated this while addressing a press conference at the Ministry Conference Room today on various aspects of the fair which will continue till April 6 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm without any entry free.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages wishing success of this fair.
Humayun informed that the fair also aims to expand the market of various locally produced products side by side with improving mutual relations among different large, medium, small, micro, cottage, handicraft and hi-tech industrial entrepreneurs as well as creating linkage among them, creating linkage between industrial entrepreneurs and consumers, and thus receiving creative opinions and suggestions from different quarters including consumers on products and services.
The minister said around 300 industrial entrepreneurs representing large, medium, small, cottage, handicraft and hi-tech industries would showcase their products and services in 300 stalls.
Out of the total entrepreneurs participating in the fair, there will be 116 female entrepreneurs while the rest of 107 will be male entrepreneurs.
Jute goods, food and agri-processed products, leather items, electrical and electronics products, light engineering products, IT products, plastic and synthetic products, handicrafts, design and fashion wares would be on display and for sale during the fair. No foreign product would be on display at the fair.
The other salient features of the fair include buyer-seller meeting booth, PID’s media center and an information center while the state-run BTV will telecast live the inaugural function of the fair.
The fair will also feature ‘Bangabandhu Corner’ which will highlight the life and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman including the oath taking ceremony of Bangabandhu as the Industries, Commerce, Labour and Anti Corruption Minister.
Besides, there will be a ‘Sheikh Hasina Corner’ which will project various implemented programmes and development activities as well as successes in the industries sector in the past 10 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
