First national cricket captain Shamim Kabir dies

Shamim Kabir, the first captain of Bangladesh cricket team died on Monday (Jul 29), confirmed an official of Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Shamim, 75, died at a city hospital in the morning. He was suffering from cancer and had been on life support for the last few days.
Shamim Kabir was born in Narsingdi to an affluent family. Shamim led Bangladesh team in their first-ever international match against MCC, in Dhaka, in January 1977.
He made his first-class debut playing for the East Pakistan side against Karachi (Green) in Nov 1961.
Overall in his 15 first-class matches, Shamim scored 411 runs at an average of 17.86.
He was also an occasional Wicketkeeper and has one stumping to his credit.
He retired from international cricket after the 1976-77 seasons. Raquibul Hasan took over the captaincy from him. After his retirement from international cricket, he got heavily involved with the cricket administration.
He played most of his club cricket in Dhaka, with the Azad Boys Club.
