Radiant Shipyard of Narayanganj has constructed Bangladesh’s first indigenous ship capable of carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
The ‘Omera Princess’ was handed over to the Omera Petroleum Limited and Mobil Jamuna Limited on Friday afternoon.
“The ship worth Tk 300 million was designed by naval architects of the Radiant Marine Design and Services,” said Managing Director Alauddin, in the handing-over ceremony at the shipyard at Rupganj’s Daudpur.
The ship would be able to tranship liquid gas to every remote area in Bangladesh, said Alauddin. “Its access will not be limited to Chittagong or Mongla ports. The Omera Princess can navigate rivers to reach any destination.”
The ship, 58.60 meter in length and 10.20 meter in width, has a 3.50 meter deep shallow water draft.
Built in nine months, it has the capacity to carry 300 metric tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Radiant Shipyard has so far made nine ships including coastal oil tankers, cruise ships and fishing trawlers among others.
