Kamruzzaman Bablu :
With a view to resolve mobile users’ complaints, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for the first time is going to arrange a public hearing by this month.
Such hearing would privilege the subscribers to place their complaints on telecommunication services to the regulator, source said.
However, the apex body of telecommunication regulatory authority also decided to arrange such hearing after learning about subscribers’ dissatisfaction over mobile phone services across the country, where subscribers would be able to speak about their experiences and opinions on call-drops, voice calls as well as internet bundle packages and prices.
The hearing would take place in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) any time of the running month, said the BTRC source.
“At the public hearing, senior executives of mobile operators will be present and they have to respond to their subscribers’ queries and complaints” a BTRC high official told The New Nation on condition of anonymity.
“To participate in the hearing, BTRC has requested the mobile phone users to register by calling BTRC call centre “2872” or filling up its specific form available in its website. The subscribers would be informed through mail or SMS or phone call about their participation in the hearing” he told.
According to the commission, public hearing is being arranged to hear the subscribers’ opinion and reaction.
After the hearing necessary actions will be taken accordingly by the telecom regulator.
The decision to hold public hearing was made at the 199th commission meeting in august following allegations that unwanted cellphone packages run on.
The commission meeting had also asked the departments concerned to ensure that representatives from all telecom operators attend the hearing.
