First-ever ‘oil museum’ to be built

The state-owned Meghna Petroleum Limited (MPL) is going to set up country’s first-ever ‘oil museum’ in the commercial capital, Chittagong with basic objective to get the people familiar withdifferent kinds of oil and their prolonged history.Design of a Tk 40 crore project, financed by MPL itself is now waiting for approval from Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), MPL sources said.
Managing Director (MD) of MPL Dr Sharif Ashrafuzzaman said the preliminary official work of the project is about to finish while work of the building is expected to begin very soon.
Terming the museum as a national asset of Chittagong as well as of the whole country, the MPL MD said thestructure of the museum to be built in city’s commercial hub and adjacent to the World Trade Centre , Agrabad, would be one of the tallest and most attractive buildings in the city.
According to the project profile, construction work of the 20-storied museum building is expected to begin shortly after the approval of the design by CDA.
The museum will be located on the first floor of the building while the other floors will be housed for different commercial organizations including banks, insurance offices and food houses , CDA sources said.
Project sources said the museum would provide information about different kinds of oil, their history,condition of oil in different countries, history of the discovery of furnace oil in the sub-continent, advent ofdifferent oil companies in the country and their activities, oil exploration activities in Bangladesh, oil fields inBangladesh, reserve of oil in the country, and achievements and possibilities of oil resources in Bangladesh.
