Karnaphuli Drydock Limited is going to establish a first ever Special economic zone in the name of Karnaphuli Drydock Special Economic Zone of the country . Bangladesh Economic zone Authority (Beza) formally handed over license of pre-qualification of establishing economic zone to Karnaphuli Drydock Ltd on Sunday at BEZA office in Dhaka , a sources of KDL said.
In the drydock Economic Zone, 2 jetties and one dock with basin will be accommodated in 66 acres of land of the KDL at Anowara , on either bank of river Karnaphuli Executive Chairman of BEZA Paban Chowdhury graced the certificates awarding ceremony as chief guest.
After full swing operation of the drydock zone, it will be able to built marine transports and nation will save huge foreign exchange barring imports of maritime transport from abroad, chief guest said. Sources said an amount of Tk.1,200crores will be spent for implementation of the project of which Tk.800 cr will be funded by the Bangladesh Bank . Mr. Pabn Chowdhury said after full swing commissioning of the project, country will earn Tk.120million dollars every year.
Moreover, about 3000 workers directly or indirectly will be involved in this project, sources added. Among others in the certificate awarding ceremony, Managing Director of Karnaphuli drydock Special Economic zone MA Rashid, Executive member of BEZA Dr M Emdadul Hoque, Md. Harunur Rashid, Md. Ayub were present ,sources added.
