Bangladesh achieves capacity for building ocean going cargo vessels aimed at exporting abroad for the last few years.
There are two ship building industry in Chittagong . The pioneer ship building industry of the country -Western Marine Shipyard of Chittagong first ever export a 88.6 meter long cargo vessel to a Latin American country-Equador.
The newly -built MV Stela Atlanltic with 88.6 meter long and a twin decker vessel. The documents of the cargo vessel was formally handed over to the representatives of Equador at shipyard premises on Monday.
This is first vessel that exported to Latin America, sources said.
WM sources said the vessel was build with German Class DNV method and German supervision .
The 3815 DWT capacity vessel have two lift cranes of 60 tons capacity each. The vessel have capacity of carrying 197 TEUs containers at a time beside the bulk cargo, sources said.
The vessel with Panama Flag carrier will carry cargos from Equador to south American Galapaghos islands .
In the handing over ceremony of the vessel as arranged in excursion vessel Western Cruise in Karnaphuli river among others, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Rear Admiral M Nizamuddin Ahmed , vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau Shuvasish Bose, ASsstt High Commissioner of India in Chittagong Somnath Haldar, Captain of Equador Navy Mr. Aligando Vilasis , General Manager of Transnaid of Equador Mr. Luis Mirabreta, Chairman and the Managing Director of Western Marine Saiful Islam and Md. Shakawat Hossain were present .
WM sources said, the vessel was imported by the state owned Equadorian Transport company-Transnaid of Equador.
