Government is to end first dose of mass covid vaccination programme on April 5.
Dr Mohammad Robed Amin, a Spokesman for the Directorate General of Health Services told journalists on Saturday.
“Our programme of administering first shots of the covid vaccine will be end on April 5, while the administering of the second dose would be start on April8. Whoso wants to take the vaccine should go to the vaccination center and take the jab showing after the registration card,” Robed Amin said.
Bangladesh government started mass vaccination programme from February 7 and gave the jab to 54,52,634 persons so far.
Among them, 937 people so far reported for side effects.
Besides, about 69 lakh people have so far registered for inoculating.
Sources said, as per the agreement signed with India’s Serum Institute, Bangladesh has to get about 1.5 crore doses of covid vaccine by March. But the reality is that the country has received only 70 lakh doses of the jabs from the Serum.
Besides, the Indian government has gifted about 32 lakh doses of the vaccine as a friendship gesture.
In these circumstances, the government has taken decision to close first dose of inoculation as it has to secure the stock for the second dose of vaccination.
