First day’s SSC exams held amid tight security

The first paper of SSC and equivalent examinations began yesterday in Chittagong and its adjacent districts amid tight security as the indefinite blockade called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance continues.
The first day’s exam held peacefully in the city as elsewhere in the district, different sources said.
A large number of Border Guard (BGB) has been deployed in each centres to ensure security of the examinees, Board sources said. Yesterday , the SSC examinees sat for the Bengali 1st paper, while Dakhil students sat for Quran Mazid and Tazbid papers and the students of the
technical education board Bengali-2 examinations in two shifts.
A total of 88,602 students are taking part in the exams under the Chittagong Education Board (CEB) from 981 high schools.
Of the total, 20,192 students from science group, 20,894 from humanities group and 47,517 students from business administration group are taking part in the examinations.
The number of examinees from Chittagong district is 64,149 , including 24,080 from city area. The other examines from Cox’s Bazar district 11,041 , Rangamati 6,037 Bandarban 1,943 and Khagrachari 5,443. Board sources said the examination, which deferred twice in the last five days due to fear of violence, finally started at 9 am on Friday.
Earlier, CEB have completed almost all preparations to hold the public examination in a free and fair manner.A total of 55 vigilance teams consisting of teachers and magistrates have visited different examination centers to check any sort of unfair means or irregularities.
Mahbub Hasan, controller of CEB told that the examination was held in peaceful and copying- free environment.
