A total of 25 victims, including 14 Bangladeshis, who died in US-Bangla Airlines aircraft crash in Kathmandu of Nepal have been identified.
The bodies were identified through their fingerprint identification, Dr Shohel Mahmud, Head of the Bangladesh forensic team in Nepal, said in a press briefing on Saturday evening.
The identities of the rest of the victims will be confirmed today (Sunday) through the fingerprints, he said adding, if not identified, DNA profiling will be done to ensure their identities.
The relatives of the deceased were urged to wait patiently to clarify the identities of the bodies, he said.
The Bangladeshi deceased are Bilkis Ara, Zaman Aniruddha, Tahira Tanvin Shashi Reza, Meenhaz Bin Nasir, Md Rokibul Hasan, Md Motiur Rahman, Zaman Md Raliq Uz, MST Akhtara Begum, Md Hasan Imam, Tamarra Prionmoyee, S M Mahmudur Rahman, Abid Sultan (Captain), Prithula Rashid (Co-pilot, and Khwaja Saifullah (Crew.
The Nepalese death victims are Sila Bajgain, Prasanna Pandey, Algina Baral, Bal Krishna Thapa, Hari Shankar Poudel, Prabin Chitrakar, Sanjay Maharjan, Gyani Kumari Gurung, Meeli Maharjan and Purnima Lohani.
The Chinese victim is Zhang Ming, according to the BD doctor.
Earlier, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities have formed a 13- member medical board to render better treatment to the four Bangladeshi survivors of the US-Bangla airlines’ plane that crashed in Nepal’s Kathmandu.
Samanta Lal Sen, National Coordinator of the burn units across the country, is leading the medical team, Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), told the media on Saturday.
All kinds of treatment will be provided to the injured passengers of the crashed plane, he DG said.
Sheikh Rashed Rubayet, one of the survivors of the crashed US-Bangla Airlines aircraft, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon from Kathmandu, he added.
He had come in Dhaka by a flight of Biman Bangladehs Airlines around 3:15pm.
Two other victims– Md Shahin Bepari and Md Kabir Hossain– will arrive Dhaka on Sunday.
Emrana Kabir Hashi, another injured passenger of the crashed aircraft, will be taken to Delhi on Sunday for better treatment.
Earlier on Friday, three more injured passengers – Mehedi Hasan, Saiyada Kamrunnahar Shwarna and Almun Nahar Annie– arrived in Bangladesh from Nepal and are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of DMCH.
Besides, Shahreen Ahmed, another injured passenger, was brought back to Dhaka from Kathmandu and admitted to the DMCH burn unit. She is now undergoing treatment at its ICU.
Meanwhile, the first batch of mortal remains of the flight crash victims is expected to be repatriated at Dhaka on Tuesday subjected to the completion of identification and other formalities including rituals in Nepal, report media.
A coordination committee is needed to be formed for repatriation of the deceased and receiving of the mortal remains at the airport, it said.
The team will be formed with representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh Police, Customs, Ministry of Disaster Management and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the report.
Regarding transportation, US-Bangla airlines promised to carry the remains. All cost of services will be borne by US Bangla. They have conveyed that a Boeing 737-800 will be arranged for this purpose.
So far a total of four survived passengers were taken to Dhaka while another was sent to Singapore for better treatment.
Of them Shahreen Ahmed, Almun Nahar Annie, Saiyada Kamrunahar Shwarna and Mehedi Hasan were admitted to hospitals here. Rezwanul Haque has been sent to Singapore for better treatment.
On March 12, at least 49 people, including 26 Bangladeshis, died as an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines from Dhaka to Kathmandu crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital of Himalayan country of Nepal.
