First batch of Bangladesh leaves for Baku today

A 49-member Bangladesh contingent will participate in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Azerbaijan capital Baku from May 12-22.
Bangladesh contingent, comprising 30 athlete and 19 officials, will depart Dhaka for Baku in six batches and the first batch of athletes will leave here for Baku today (Tuesday) although two BOA staff left for Baku on Monday as advanced team.
President of Bangladesh Handball Federation AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul, who is named as the chef de-mission of Bangladesh contingent, will fly for Baku on Wednesday alongwith two NOC members and Bangladesh Weightlifting and Karate teams.
A large number athletes from 57 Islamic countries will compete in 21 disciplines of sports of the eleven-day meet.
The opening ceremony will be held at Baku Olympic Stadium on May 12 while the closing ceremony was scheduled for May 22 at the same venue.
Of the 21 disciplines of sports, thirty athletes of Bangladesh will compete in eight disciplines-shooting, swimming, weightlifting, karate, gymnastics, athletics, wrestling and zurkhaneh.
On the first day of the competition on May 13, Bangladeshi athletes will compete in shooting, swimming, karate, weightlifting and gymnastics.
