State Minister for Home Affairs Assaduzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the government is planning to equip the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department with helicopters in near future so that it can provide quicker services.
“We’ve a plan to provide the Fire Service Department with helicopters as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen its capacity,” he told reporters.
The junior minister made the remarks while talking to the journalists after attending the concluding ceremony of a training programme arranged for the 48th batch Firemen at
Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Training Complex in the city.
Earlier addressing the function, he said the government has already taken various initiatives for modernising as well as upgrading the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department.
Kamal said, construction work on buildings for fire stations-at least one at every upazila-across the country is going on following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement.
He also said, the government has also undertaken programmes to improve the lifestyle of employees and officers of the department. “I hope the streak of such development will continue in the future.”
Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan also addressed the function.
He said the number of fire stations will be raised to 549 by 2016 from existing 275. The existing manpower of the department will also be increased to 15,000 by the time.
