Fire Service and Civil Defence Week will begin today across the country aiming to create mass awareness to prevent fire incidents and others disaster.
Fire Service and Civil Defence has taken an elaborate programme to observe the week.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will formally inaugurate the programme at the Fire Service and Civil Defence
Multipurpose Complex at Purbachal in Narayanganj at 9 am.
A total of 411 fire stations across the country will simultaneously observe the week from November 6 to 12.
On the occassion, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting the Fire Service and Civil Defence officials and wished all the programmes a success.
President in his message said the role of Fire Service and Civil Defence is very crucial for ensuring security of the people’s lives during any manmade disaster, including extinguishing fire, serving injured people, transporting patients in critical condition and facing natural disasters.
As the government institution, at first, workers of the Fire Service and Civil Defence stand by the people putting their lives at risk during different disasters, he added.
Noting that the rate and prevalence of accident is increasing gradually due to the industrialization and urbanization, the President underscored the need for supplying modern equipment to the fire service workers and give higher training them to face challenge of accidents.
Abdul Hamid hoped that the weeklong programme will help the fire service workers increase mutual communication with the common people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the present Awami League (AL) government has strengthened its effort to increase overall capacity of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence aiming at building a safe Bangladesh.
The government has set up at least one fire station at every upazila across the country and provided an ambulance to each fire station for transporting injured people to the hospital during any accident, she added.
Apart from increasing services and capacity, other facilities were also increased for the institution, the premier said.
Sheikh Hasina hoped that workers of the Fire Service and Civil Defence will perform their duties with enthusiasm, courage, skill, honesty and sincerity and help to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt by greatest Bengalee of all times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by implementing pledge of building safe Bangladesh.
