United Hospital authorities have paid Tk 25 lakh as initial compensation to each of the four victim families for the damages and death of their family members in a fire incident happened in the hospital last year.
The hospital authorities did it complying with an Appellate Division direction given in last April that asked the United Hospital to pay the compensation, said Barrister Niaz Muhammad Mahbub who appeared in the court on behalf of the victim families.
Lawyer Niaz said, “Recently, the United Hospital authorities have paid Tk 25 lakh each in the form of Pay Order to the four victim families out of five who died in a fire accident. We have informed it to the Appellate Division.”
Earlier on April 29 this year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court directed United Hospital authorities to pay four victim families Tk 25 lakh each as initial compensation for the damages and death of their family members in the fire incident.
The hospital authorities have been asked to pay the amount in 30 days from the date of receiving the apex court order.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain delivered the order after holding hearing on three leave to appeal petitions filed by United Hospital authorities.
