A devastating fire broke out in a slum of Mirzapol under Panchalish thana in the city yesterday morning caused 150 tin sheds of the slum.
The fire originated from electric short circuit. Deputy Asstt Director of Fire Agrabad Fire station Farid Uddin told journalists that sensing the information of fire at 10 am, 12 fire fighting mobile units rushed to the spot and the fire brought under control after one hour.
He said Panchalaish thana Officer Incharge told BSS that the fire broke out in Shahnewaz Colony from short circuit of tenant Lakhi Akhter which later engulfed to neighboring slum colony of Babu colony, Khokan colony, Showkat colony and Hossain Colony where about 165 slum tin sheds are located. About 250 families have been affected with fire , police added. Instantly Additional Deputy commissioner of Chattogram Md. Kamal Hossain visited the affected spots and distributed dry foods to the fire victims . He said worm clothes will be distributed to them in the evening. No human life caused in the fire.
Fire Services Department is ascertaining the loss of the fire.
