An old man was burnt to death, two were injured and seven residential houses gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Godown area in Juraichhari sadar upazila last night.
The fire originated from a gas stove of a house at 11 pm and engulfed other residential houses, local Cotton Development Board office and a union parishad office.
The deceased was identified as Santara Chakma, 60, a farmer of the area.
Members of Bangladesh Army at Juraichhari upazila and local people brought the fire under control after more than one hour. There is no fire service station in the area.
Saiful Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Juraichhari, confirmed the death. He said an investigation committee was also formed to find out the causes of the fire.
