A fire that swept through a market in Dhaka’s Mirpur, trading in garments scrap, has been doused. Five firefighting units put out the flame around 12:45pm on Saturday, an hour after it had broken out at the ‘Jhut Patti’ in Mirpur-11 locality, police said. The market has scores of small shops and a number of shanties have mushroomed around it. Pallabi police OC Ziauzzaman said the fire had gutted over 450 shanties. No injuries have been reported, he said. However, the cause of the fire and extent of damage are yet to be known.
