A fire broke out at a readymade garment (RMG) factory in the city’s Salimuddin Market of Mirpur-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The fire originated at around 5:45pm in the store room of Cordial Design Ltd on the fourth floor of an eight-storied building and the firefighters brought the blaze under control around at 6:30pm, Fire Service sources said.
However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Quoting the witnesses and police, Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Abdul Halim said that the firefighters and locals rescued the workers who took shelter on the rooftop of the factory from nearby buildings.
A few workers might have been inside the factory as they were working overtime when the fire broke out, he said.
