At least eight commercial establishments and 12 dwelling houses were gutted recently in two separate places in the city and district.
Eight shops were gutted in Textile Gate area under Biyazid thana in the city at about 3 am. Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shop and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
On information, two fire fighter units from the city fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control at about 5 am.
On the other hand, at least 12 dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Khankhanabad village under Banskhali upzila of the district early this morning.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a house at around 2 am and quickly engulfed the surrounding houses of the village.
Being informed, two fire fighter units from Banskhali upazila fire stationrushed to the spot and brought the flame under control after three hours frantic effort.
