A fire has burnt down a plastic manufacturing factory in a four-storey abandoned building in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar.
The incident was reported at the ‘Noakhali Building’ on Chawkbazar’s Urdu Road around 3:45 am Friday, according to Kamrul Hasan, duty officer of the fire service’s control room.
Despite problems accessing the building due to the narrow alleyways in the neighbourhood, 15 units of fire service eventually took control of the situation after battling the flames for almost two hours.
No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
“The factory was situated on the ground floor of the abandoned building. The authorities suspect the fire was sparked by an electric short-circuit,” said Chawkbazar Police OC Moudut Hawladar.
