Fire burns regional Taxes Office

A fire accident on the first floor of the regional office of taxes on the Club Road of the city burned furniture, computer and important documents on Tuesday.
ABM Mamtajuddin Ahmoad, Deputy Director of fire service and civil defense office Barishal, said that fire started around 2:50 AM early Tuesday and four units of fire service rushed to the spot land extinguished the flame within an hour.
Lutfur Rahman, Joint Commissioner of Barishal Regional Taxes Office, said fire might spark from electric short circuit at Range-1 Office on first floor of the five storied building.
Two officials residing at dormitory on third floor of the building became trapped and among them Shaon Chowdhury, Additional Commissioner of Taxes, became senseless due to suffocation. He was later rescued and admitted to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, the joint commissioner added.
Manzur Hossain, Assistant Commissioner (headquarters) of Regional Office of Taxes Commissioner, said some public documents, office furniture including three Air Conditioner (AC), three laptops, fridges , steel almirah and file cabinet, chairs and tables have been burnt to ashes.
The damage is around Tk. 20 lakh.
Initially, we think, the fire started from an electrical short circuit. Important documents are usually kept in the officers’ cupboards. So they were protected. However we are estimating the damages of properties and documents, he added.
