Fire broke out in Bangladesh Naval ship BNS Omar Faruk in Chittagong Naval Base which was doused after 20 minutes of its occurrence. The fire broke out in the naval ship anchored at No.1
berth of BNS Isha Khan at about 2 pm Tuesday. Fire services sources said no major casualties occurred in the fire incident. Two fire service units extended immediate cooperation to douse the blaze.
The reasons for fire are yet to be ascertained, Fire Services sources said BNS Omar Faruk is a Frigate of Bangladesh Navy brought from UK in 1977.
The ship was engaged with the training of the sailors and to control the piracy in the Bay and rescue operations. It is one of the largest frigates of Bangladesh Navy among the six frigates having weight of 2400 metric tons and capable to carry the 200 sailors and crew.
Very recently BNS Omar Faruk was deployed in the Bay in searching the missing Malaysian airlines flight MH-370, sources said.
