A fire broke out at Shikalbaha Thermal Power Plant at Patiya upazila on Sunday afternoon.
According to Shikalbaha Power Plant sources, fire gutted a transformer nearby the plant disrupting power supply to the Southern part of Chittagong for several hours.
Deputy Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service Abdul Malek said, “On receipt of the information, three fire fighting unit from Agrabad, Patiya and Lamar Bazar Fire Service rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after three hours hectic effort.”
Sources said 150 MW and 60 MW power plants were saved.
After controlling the fire, power generation in the plants resumed in the evening.
