The Fish Inspection and Quality Control (FIQC) laboratories of Department of Fisheries at Chittagong are now configured with world class Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
LIMS installed at FIQC Chittagong and Khulna Laboratory under Better Fisheries Quality (BFQ) of BEST project implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by European Union and NORAD recently.
Rigorous and intensive efforts on training, expert consultation, hands on exercise, equipment interfacing for automatic data transfer and LIMS implementation program for laboratory analysts and officials have been deployed during 01 to 20 March 2014. Organized jointly by the Department of Fisheries and BEST-BFQ project of the UNIDO, the LIMS training and implementation was attended by 29 participants from FIQC Chittagong & Khulna laboratories.
FIQC laboratories of Department of Fisheriesare the pioneer among Public sector as well as private sector laboratories for establishing LIMS in the country. This can serves as a tool for managing and improving the flow & quality of analytical work into and out of a laboratory. By installing and having trained manpower with productive mode of LIMS definitely will facilitate quality, transparency and credibility of fish & fishery products testing by Fish Inspection and quality Control (FIQC) and obviously will further contribute to enhance country’s shrimp and fish export scenario.
The program was conducted by Kurt Krikava& Hannes Fucsh of Thermo Informatics Company as International Consultants from UNIDO. Dr. Shamshad B. Quraishi, National Consultant (Laboratory), Monzur Morshed Ahmed, National Consultant (Microbiology) and Saikat Ahsan Khandaker, Administrative cum IT Officer, BEST-BFQ UNIDO coordinated the whole mission program, Department of Fisheries , chittagpmg sources said.
