Final draft in Nov to amend labour law

The tripartite committee, formed to amend the Labour Act 2006 for protecting the rights of country’s labourers, will submit its primary draft in the current month while the final report in November.
Joint Secretary of Labour and Employment Ministry and member secretary of the committee Aminul Islam said the tripartite committee has so far held three meetings and it will submit the primary draft of the amended law in the current month of August.
He said the rules of Labour Act 2006 were finalized in 2015 and the law was amended three times in 2009, 2010 and 2013.
An initiative has been taken to modernize the law as the International Labour Organization (ILO) ask for making it labour friendly, he added.
A three-day meeting of the tripartite committee is going on from Thursday at BRAC Center in Gazipur which will conclude on Saturday, he said, adding the primary draft will be submitted to the government after the meeting.
The committee consists of representatives from Commerce Ministry, president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation, president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), president of Jatiya Sramik League, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation Advisor Kamran T Rahman, Jatiya Sramik League executive member Abdus Salam Khan and Bangladesh Trade Union Songha member Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam.
Joint Secretary of Labour and Employment Ministry Aminul Islam is acting as the member secretary of the committee.
