Rajshahi University (RU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Mizan Uddin said that we think ourselves safe when the students stay on campus. When the students are not in campus then safety is interrupted.
But today, we are all suffering from insecurity due to the few misguided student among them.
VC was speaking at a human chain programme organised by RU Teachers Association (RUTA) protesting countrywide ongoing militants attack including brutal killing of Prof. AFM Rezaul Karim Siddique on Sunday morning in front of Senate building.
Speakers said, the students, teachers and employees of the university may be involved in militancy.
He also urged everyone to work together to tackle militancy.
RUTA President Prof. Md. Shahidullah acted while General Secretary Prof. Shah Azam Shantonu moderated the programme.
Attending as the special guest Pro-VC Prof. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan expressed that today we having to suspect them (students) who are being educated by the nursing us. Even we are observing their behavior and movement which is too bad for us a matter.
Former RUTA president and also vice president of Bangladesh University Teachers Association (FBUTA) Prof. Ananda Kumar Shah, Prof. Sadequl Arefin Matin, syndicate member KBM Mahbubur Rahman and Prof. Sayeed Md. Abdullah Al Mamun also spoken on the programme.
On the other hand, university authorities formed a 15-member anti-militancy committee to fight all sorts of militancy and terrorism at the campus.
VC Prof. Muhammed Mizan Uddin and student advisor Prof Mizanur Rahnan made convener and member secretary respectively of the executive committee, a press release said
Sylhet Correspondent adds: People from all walks of life including religious leaders, politicians, police, educationists and journalists in Sylhet Saturday took an oath to protest militancy at an anti-militancy conference organised by Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
The conference was held in the city’s Mohammad Ali Gym complex, while the speakers also urged the government to take necessary steps to eradicate militancy.
The conference was presided over by Kamrul Ahsan, commissioner of SMP, where Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Metropolitan University, Dr Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, vice-chancellor of Sust, and Misbah Uddin Siraj, central organising secretary of Awami League, also spoke.
