Crisis-hit FIFA is in a “difficult” economic environment and is roughly $550 million (500 million euros) behind in its four-year budgetary goal, the body’s secretary general Markus Kattner said at a congress on Friday.
Kattner told FIFA’s 209 member associations that the scandals in world football, including the need to cooperate with criminal corruption investigations in the United States and Switzerland, had created “general uncertainty” within the organisation.
“The economic environment is difficult,” he said. “We are going to record a negative result in 2015.”
“We are currently about $550 behind in our goals,” for the budget period of 2015 to 2018, he added.
