A field day on jute farming to get quality fiber was held at West Khatiamari Char under Fazlupur union of Fulchhari upazila in the district on Wednesday.
Making Markets Work for the Jamuna, Padma and Teesta Chars (M4C) project, with assistance of its sub-contractor local NGO SKS Foundation organized the function to boost production of quality jute in char areas to help the char farmers get fair price against the crop.
M4C is a 5-year project funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives.
It is being implemented by Swisscontact and Practical Action in collaboration with Rural Development Academy, Bogra that aims to enhance income and employment opportunities for 60,000 char households by facilitating market systems, sources said.
The speakers in their speeches said the char farmers had been farming jute on the char land in traditional way for long; resulting the growers were not earning economical benefit by selling the substandard yield in the markets.
