The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre
(FFWC) on Saturday forecasts deterioration in flood situation as major rivers are swelling.
The FFWC found water levels at 54 points across the country have risen in the past 24 hours while water levels receded at 30 points, and at 10 points waters are flowing above danger levels, says a FFWC bulletin. The Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganges-Padma and Meghna river systems are showing rising trend which is likely to continue for 72 hours while the Surma-Kushiyara is expected to fall in next 48 hours. The flood situation in Kurigram, Rangpur, Jamalpur, Bogra, Gaibandha, Sirajganj, Pabna, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Rajbari and Munshiganj districts may deteriorate and that in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Netrokona districts are likely to improve. But Satkhira district flood situation may remain steady, said the bulletin. At Chilmari 316mm rainfall was recorded , 267mm was recorded at Kaunia, 198mm at Rangpur, 150mm at Dewanganj and 126mm at Kurigram.
