UNB, Dhaka :
The Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) is demanding a ‘National Film Centre’ as soon as possible.
The federation organized a National Film Conference in the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to press the demand on Saturday.
A draft proposal for the ‘National Film Centre’ was presented in the conference, setting out the centre’s purpose and infrastructure planning, among other things.
A 700-seat auditorium to organize international
film festival, a seminar hall, a training room, audio-visual library, cafeteria, seminar room and office space for film-related organizations and a management committee for the centre was outlined as part of the infrastructure.
Speaking at the conference as chief guest, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the primary activities of establishing the National Film Centre will start very soon in consultation with concerned ministries.
He said that film can fight militancy. The film centre can raise the organized awareness through screening anti-militancy movies and creating a militancy-free generation throughout society.
“We have already taken some measures to establish a Film City with modern facilities. Bangladesh Film and Television Institute is one of the major organizations working on creating skilled people for the industry. So the demand for the National Film Centre will get the green signal,” Inu assured his audience. Presiding over the conference, legendary actor ‘Nayak Raj’ Razzak said the introduction of Bengali films took a lot of time in our country. “Now we need a coordinated approach to revive the Bengali films. We should raise our voice strongly to gain our demands. This will serve the purpose of the revival of Bengali film and help take films to the grass-roots.”
