An influential land grabber of Dimla Upazila Shah Alam (64) has allegedly mercilessly beat and hospitalized running upazila commander of Muktijaddha Sangsad Shamsul Huque (65) who now admitted at Rangpur Medical College Hospital for taking treatment of his broken chest bone for last 7 days.
Protesting assault on the muktijoddha commander , they demanded arrest of Shah Alam and his associates, several hundred freedom fighters and locals staged agitation yesterday and brought out procession and formed a huge human chain at Smrity Amlan premises in Dimla town center.
On 2 February afternoon, Shah Alam and his men attacked the elderly muktijoddha commander and broke his chest bone as the victim went to protest occupation of his 45 decimal land by the attackers near his house at Babur haat area in the upazila town.
Deputy Commander of Upazila Unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Aminur Rahman in his speech during programme said, “In spite of filing case by victim’s son, police is yet to arrest main accused Shah Alam as moving freely and campaigning for his candidature as upazila pasishad chairman”
Nazma Begum Golap (50) wife of muktijoddha commander talking to this correspondent alleged that regarding the assault on his husband, his son though went to file case with Dimla police station against Shah Alam and seven others but the officer in charge (OC) didn’t record.
Later, OC was compelled to record the case as large number of freedom fighters rushed there.
“Police hasn’t yet arrested Shah Alam as he is close to local ruling party high ups,” she added.
Victim Shamsul Islam’s son Golam Rabbani (30) complained that, in order to harassing them, Shah Alam filed 39 cases against his father and family members and Dimla police threatening them of arrest in connection with those cases leaving aside our complain.
All the speakers in the gathering demanded Shah Alam’s arrest and exemplary punishment.
While contacted, Dimla OC Mofizuddin Sheikh denied allegation of favouring Shah Alam and said, “We have already arrested an accused who is free now as court granted bail and we trying to arrest other accused.”
