The government has distributed Taka 4, 62, 60, 000 among 771 freedom fighters (FFs) as allowance in the district in the 2014-2015 fiscal year, official sources said.
Department of Social Welfare distributed about 5,000 Taka per month to each Freedom Fighter.
Under the programme, Taka 1,04,40,000 was distributed among 174 FFs in Joypurhat Sadar upazila, Taka 93,00,000 among 155 FFs in Panchbibi upazila, Taka 6,00,000 among 10 FFs in Kalai upazila, Taka 30,00,000 among 50 FFs in Khetlal upazila and Taka 2,29,20,000 among 382 in Akkelpur upazila of the district.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department Noor Mohammad said this to BSS.
Talking to BSS, Muktijoddha Commander of Joypurhat unit Amzad Hossain and Deputy Commander Janab Ali said they have accepted the allowance as the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recognized their contributions in the Liberation war.
